Gisteren gezien. Echt fantastisch. Beste toneelstuk dat ik een lange, lange tijd gezien heb. Het gebruik van Dance of the Knights als overgangsmuziek was een mooie bonus. Aanrader.

Onlangs deze voorstelling gezien. Ik twijfel niet aan de oprechte inzet van Suzan Seegers en van haar medespelers, maar ik zat wel een beetje met kromme tenen. Heel jammer dat er een nogal hysterische karikatuur van Edith Piaf gemaakt werd. Ook de Franse uitspraak van Suzan liet te wensen over, net als haar articulatie. Haar medespelers deden het wat zang en uitspraak betreft een stuk beter. Er zaten nogal wat dingen in het verhaal die niet klopten of erbij gefantaseerd waren en dat er zoveel wél belangrijke feiten en beroemde mensen in het leven van Edith Piaf niet benoemd werden, zal een keuze geweest zijn, maar ik miste ze wel. En.... er was niet eens een accordeon bij! Piaf en Parijs zonder ACCORDEON? Dat kán toch niet!! Waarom trouwens altijd Piaf willen imiteren en er een karikatuur van maken en waarom een leven als het hare in 2 uurtjes willen proppen? Hou daarmee op! Er zou een schitterende, avondvullende voorstelling gemaakt kunnen worden met een goede zangeres die chansons van Piaf vertolkt, gewoon met haar eigen, normale stem, in mooi Frans, met wel een beetje passende stem bij het genre natuurlijk. Goede muzikanten, mét ook een accordeon! Verder iemand, of de zangeres zelf, die tussendoor verhalen en anekdotes over Piaf vertelt. Er valt zóveel te vertellen en er is zoveel materiaal om uit te putten op video, lp's of platen en in boeken. Verhalen die mensen als Yves Montand, Charles Aznavour, Georges Moustaki, Charles Dumont enz. én ook Piaf zelf verteld hebben. Toon daarbij wat filmbeelden en foto's en het wordt een schitterende avond waar elke chansonliefhebber van zal genieten. Zoiets zou geweldig zijn! Ik weet dat de meeste mensen deze voorstelling wél mooi vonden en dus is het toch een succes te noemen. Toevallig heb ik me als fan sinds vele jaren altijd veel in het leven en de chansons van Piaf verdiept en ervaar het dus allemaal een beetje anders. Dat wilde ik hier gewoon even eerlijk vertellen.

Na iedere comeback ziet hij er meer uit als een verlopen junk dan daarvoor

Charlie and the chocolate factory is one of my favorite Roald Dahl stories. I remember when I was a kid at Woodlands Elementary School in 5th Grade in 2008 my teacher Mrs. Molly read the book to not only me but to all of the students in her class. Around the same time we did a class project where we made a float for the story book parade and we have to draw some pictures of different scenes from the book. Then one year later in 2009 when I was in 6th Grade at the same school I did a school play where my principal Mr. McCormick played Grandpa Joe and I was the giant Wonka Bar passing out the programs and operating the curtains. Fast forward to 2019 I saw the stage show. It started in London's West End in 2013 and now the national tour has landed in Seattle's Paramount Theatre. I like the show and it is a blend of both of the 1971 Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory movie and the 2005 Charlie and the chocolate factory movie but there is one complaint of what I don't like about the show is they used adult actors to play Augustus, Veruca, Violet and Mike. That is the only problem I'm having with the show because the problem with this casting is they don't look like kids. When they are standing next to their parents they look about the same age and when they are standing next to Charlie which was the only child actor in the show they are too tall. A lot of audiences who saw the show on Broadway and on tour in the U.S. are never going to notice that but for me that really bugs me because when I saw School Of Rock and Matilda The Musical when they were on tour in the U.S. they had child actors on stage. For me I think casting adult actors to play the four nasty kids in the show is a bad idea and a bad decision that the producers have made when the show first came to Broadway. Plus when the adult actors are playing Augustus, Veruca, Violet and Mike in the Broadway version they are really awful in their acting, comedy and how they preform and in the U.K. Tour version same thing. Out of all of the performances of Charlie and the chocolate factory live on stage I like the London's West End version a lot better. Even though I didn't get a chance to see it the West End version will always be the best. The reason why I like that version and the reason why it's my favorite because they used child actors to play Augustus, Veruca, Violet, Mike and Charlie. Their casting of child actors to play the five Golden Ticket winners is much better than the Broadway version I saw on tour in the U.S. a few years later. Plus when the show started in London they know what they were doing for the casting of child actors in the show and they got it right. Compare to the Broadway version they used adult actors to play Augustus, Veruca, Violet and Mike which doesn't make any since why would they want to cut this corner and they got the casting of the characters in the show wrong and it just doesn't feel right. Every time they do a stage play of Charlie and the chocolate factory in America after the success of the West End version the Broadway/National Tour and U.K. Tour versions always get's the show wrong. The Broadway version of Charlie and the chocolate factory needs to pay attention more on the West End version and do more research on their auditioning process for child actors to be in the show because Broadway is being so lazy when it comes to casting to play the characters in the show. They also ruined a bunch of 9, 10, 11, and 12 year old boys and girls dream of being a naughty kid on stage. The show did great on Broadway and on tour in the U.S. it's just it wasn't the right casting. Other than that another con about the show is that it had no exit song for Violet after she chewed the three cores dinner chewing gum and the show is going from kid friendly to dark when during the Nutcracker Suite the squirrels tore Veruca apart. Plus during the song When Willy Met Oompa one of the Oompa Loompas spits a dart and exploded Violet while her Dad was taking her daughter to the Juicing Room. I wouldn't take a kid to see this show on Broadway if I were you because the Broadway version did not share the same success as the London's West End version. Not only they made it very inappropriate to cast adults to play the four nasty kids and made it too dark for kids to see but the sets are not like the West End version. Reviews of the Broadway production were mixed to negative, with some critics citing poor staging and restructuring of the story as primary issues and the show close on 14 January 2018, after 27 previews and 305 performances in New York. The West End version of the show in London on the other hand made roughly 4 times it's reviews so the Broadway version of the show in the U.S. was definitely a step back. I'm going to give the Broadway version of Charlie and the chocolate factory a 7 out of 10 for the adult actors playing the four nasty kids, making the show dark, no exit song for Violet, the squirrels taring Veruca apart and one of the Oompa Loompas spits a dart and exploded Violet. For the U.K. Tour I'm going to give it a 9 out of 10. The U.K. Tour did great and while it is very close to the West End version I still don't like the idea of adult actors playing the four nasty kids that they took from the Broadway version. Since the show closed in London both the Broadway and U.K.Tour versions screwed everything up on the West End version by casting adult actors to play the four nasty kids, making the show dark and very inappropriate for kids to see. They could have kept the West End production the same like they did with School Of Rock and Matilda and just do two sets of child actors playing Augustus, Veruca, Violet, Mike and Charlie so they won't have to hire as many children like they did in the West End version. I'm going to give the London's West End version of Charlie and the chocolate factory a 10 out of 10 for having child actors in the show playing all five characters because they did better than the adult actors in the Broadway and U.K.Tour versions. Unlike those two the West End version worked so well it's hilarious and it has comedy done right with child actors when they are on stage to make audiences laugh. When the show is back on Broadway and back on tour in the U.S. and the U.K. I hope they will correct this in the future and allow child actors on Broadway and National Tour and in the U.K. Tour to play Augustus, Veruca, Violet and Mike in Charlie and the chocolate factory. For the Broadway version they need to make the show less dark, more kid friendly and make it a little more like the West End version. Because it's ok to have a stage show that follows the book and it doesn't always have to be like the 1971 and 2005 films. Not only that, if the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle or any other Theatre in the United States and the United Kingdom want to recreate their own stage production of Charlie and the chocolate factory and make it a better version and get a revival on Broadway and on tour in the UK and USA then they not only they need to include child actors to play Augustus, Veruca, Violet, Mike and Charlie but here are the songs they should use for act 1 and act 2 from the West End version, Broadway version and stage school/community theatre productions of Willy Wonka.
